With this journey boasting a 9-hour drive time, you may want to find an in-between stop to rest at and let the family explore something entirely new. You will have plenty of time for Yellowstone, so take the time to spend the night and enjoy a cute little town. We at AVR recommend you stop at Rawlins, which is about 3 hours into the drive. It isn’t exactly a halfway point, but Rawlins is a cute little town that has everything you could want and more. Be sure to check out what the locals eat and find a well-priced place to spend the night at. It is the perfect place to take in some new sights and break up the drive, so you are well rested for your first day at Yellowstone.
Yellowstone is an amazing place to experience, especially if you plan your trip around fall. The color changes occurring all around you from the changing season, will be a sight you all remember for the rest of your lives. This isn’t some ordinary road trip, this is an AVR journey that is tailored to making lasting family memories. Yellowstone was the world’s first national park and is one of America’s most famous thanks to the Old Faithful Geyser and Grand Prismatic Spring. Come to Yellowstone to see grizzly and black bears, thousands of wild bison, packs of wolves, giant waterfalls and the largest concentration of active geysers on Earth. There is so much to do at Yellowstone it would take hours to list everything, but some of the must see attractions are: Old faithful, fairy falls, and Mammoth Hot Springs. There are plenty of amazing trails for those that love to hike! Be sure to check out: Fountain paint pot trail, Dunraven Pass, and Hike to peak of Mt. Washburn. For those that aren’t into a long hikes, but still want to take in some amazing scenery of natural beauty, there is a 7 mile scenic drive that is totally worth it! Be sure to bring your telescope if you own one, the peak of Mt. Washburn, Mammoth Springs, and Old faithful, make great stargazing spots as well. When the time comes to chow down, we got you covered with the best options only the locals know about. There are many campgrounds that you can even RV at, but it is best to look at their website for better information regarding which campgrounds are open or filled. For those that don’t want to camp, lodging is available within very close proximity so you don’t ever feel like you are missing the experience sights.
